DAN MATTHEWS SEEKS ELECTION TO CONGRESS Matthews is a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel who describes himself as a fiscal and social conservation. "Too many Americans today are just apathetic or ignorant of what's happening, and that is a crisis," he said. We need a leader in the Secretary of State's Office with the real world elections experience to maintain the integrity of our election system with significantly less money. It is not a time for on the job training. 
My focus will be on job creation, controlling government spending, and improving public schools. "The present make-up of the Legislature refuses to address the real issues, that's concernng our budget and how we deal with the finances of this state."
The people of Island County need help, and they need jobs. Entrepreneurs need the ability to exist in Island County and every person needs the opportunity to be successful. When elected, I'll make holding the line on county expenses a priority and I'll work to improve the efficiency of our county's departments. As your commissioner, I'll require that we keep a balanced budget and work at improving the business climate in Island County. 
Jim Campbell has a strong leadership background that includes the ability to work though complex problems, people to people skills, a practical working knowledge of large dollar budgets. 
Jill Johnson is a trusted community leader who has a track record of getting results. From her first job picking strawberries at Dugualla Bay Farms, her years of experience working closely with elected officials nationwide, to her current position as Executive Director of the Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce, Jill knows first hand the challenges facing today's employers and the qualities needed to lead.
